Times are tough these days for businesses and individuals. The tricky current economic climate demands that everybody makes savings where possible. One way offices can do this is by geographically relocating out of the city and into the suburbs. Apart from a much more favorable office rental, the business will discover that there are many other economic benefits up for grabs as well.
Although the office would be outside the hub, it will continue to be within easy physical reach. Thanks to the modern transport systems of today, journeys to meetings with clients are simple to undertake. The Internet also makes it less necessary to be on the spot as well, as do such things as teleconferencing, Skype and so on.
The finances saved in rent can be quite considerable and in this current financial climate, the value of this should not be underestimated. That saving can be invested somewhere safely, or may be used as a financial cushion. On the other hand, it might be just what is required to reinvest in the business to take it towards the next stage of development.
Another benefit is the increase in available space. This not only applies to the internal office space, but also to its surrounding area. Some developments are really sprawling when compared to inner city office areas, and the increase in space will certainly be appreciated by staff. There are often some effective relaxation areas outside of the building situated by trees, water features and large lawn areas. Having these excellent facilities on hand can make staff feel happier, and as a result become more efficient in the workplace.
Furthermore, car parking is usually plentiful. This means that customers can be more flexible when they visit you as they would no longer be bound by train and bus timetables. Your staff will also appreciate having the ability to drive to work without the headache of parking and city traffic. Again, their benefit will be reflected in the way they work to the advantage of the company.
It might also be that staff themselves will relocate their homes to live in the cheaper area. While there are economic benefits from this, the company will also see some benefits. When the annual pay round approaches, it may be possible to give staff lower salary increases than normal to reflect the cost of living differential.
So in summary, relocating office space to the suburbs might not be for every business but the benefits are very real and can certainly impact a business in a positive way. It may just be something worth considering.
